The report presents the results of an investigation of the market potential for a proposed cinema complex in West Mumbai in India. The research was 2002 by Spectrum Group on behalf of Priya Village Roadshow with a local company responsible for the surveys of cinema patrons and also the population demographic and cinemagoing information for Mumbai and other major centres in India. Spectrum Group has relied on the authenticity of this reporting, however, as in all market assessments conducted by Spectrum Group, detailed site investigation research, including evaluation of competitors, has been carried out by the Spectrum Group head consultants. The proposal was a 16 screen- 3,200 seat multiplex cinema with 1,000 car parking spaces located in Goregaon in the western sector 20 kilometres north of the Mumbai central business district. The target market was anticipated as belonging to the higher earning demographic groups which, based on the data provided, represent about 30% of the total residents in the likely area of influence of the cinemas. The level of cinema attendance and average ticket price was found to be low compared to the Delhi market. Cinema admissions of around 1.5 million have been forecast. |
