Spectrum Group conducted research into most of the new shopping centre and multiplex cinema development that occurred during the period of rapid development in Malaysia during the 1980s and 1990s including Suria KLCC and Mid Valley Megamall, the two largest and most successful retail developments in the Klang Valley. A large number of very large new centres have been built, some of which have not traded effectively, however it has been clearly established that the investment in these failed projects was not guided by market analysis and consulting expertise. However, the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre was a successful venture and in 2002 further options for construction of retail space and associated leisure areas were being considered. The research conducted by Spectrum Group was directed the head consultant in Sydney following investigations of the market and competitor shopping centres. |
